Luke 18:8 “I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?””
The one asking is Jesus. Jesus just like the Holy Spirit is God 100%. When He asks, He knows the answer but He is challenging us to wake up and be alert to circumstances that can affect or kill our faith. When Jesus returns, will He find faith on earth?
Faith is what connects us to God. Jesus gave the parable in Luke 18:1-8 to emphasise the need for prayer without giving up. Our prayer life will be fruitful if it is not seasonal nor erratic. For our prayer life to be consistent, we need faith in God. Without faith, prayer will be a tiring ritual, that we sleep and struggle through, and even get irritated by. How is your prayer life? Does it have faith or is it devoid of faith? How is it progressing? With more faith or less? Will Jesus find faith in you and me when He returns? Will He find faith?
A widow in the parable had to deal with a wicked judge. A judge who didn’t fear God nor man. We too have to deal daily with a wicked world that doesn’t fear God nor man. The widow succeeded because she had faith that she will get Justice, hence her persistence. She had faith that God was accompanying her and supporting her as she engaged the wicked judge. She needed faith that God was on her side in this engagement.
We too cannot engage the wicked world around us without faith. Wicked clients, wicked colleagues, wicked neighbors, wicked relatives, wicked friends, wicked parents, wicked children, wicked spouses, wicked government officials… wicked church members and leaders…we need faith! Will Jesus find faith in us when He returns?
Without faith we can’t succeed in our engagement with the wicked. We will fail, despair and may even join them in wickedness. We need faith in God. As we deal with the wicked world, when Jesus returns, will He find faith or compromise? Will He find faith?
The parable ends by mentioning that God will quickly reward those who have faith and daily cry to Him. What do you need from God? Don’t we need everything from God? Yet, without faith, He will not grant anything. If we lose faith, we lose God and all that He offers to us. We need faith if God is to bless us daily including today. But Jesus wondered loudly, will He find faith when He returns?
The big challenge He was addressing and still does is that, we easily give up in prayer, in our dealings with the wicked and even in our relationship with God. We give up for lack of faith in God. Clearly our success today depends on our faith in God. Will He find faith in you? Will He find faith in me? Will He find faith on earth? Will he find faith?
Mark 9:24 “…, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”” This should be our prayer. We believe, we want to have faith, but many times…unbelief suffocates our praying and believing. May God help us overcome unbelief so that He will find faith in us. Will He find faith?
Faith is a gift from God. It is not self generated. I pray for faith today. May He find faith in you and in me today, in Jesus name. Amen!
