The Lamb Will Overcome!

The Lamb Will Overcome!

Revelation 17:12 “The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast.
(17:13) They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.
(17:14) They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings–and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”

The book of Revelation was written at a time of bitter persecution against the church. It was written to encourage the little flock of God, that though seemingly outnumbered and overwhelmed they will be victorious. The book’s purpose is to encourage and excite hope that Victory is coming.

Emphasis of the book and climax of each subsection of the book is Christ’s triumph over evil. The symbolic and figurative language was used so that authorities do not discover it is them and their doom being discussed, lest they stop circulation of the book and kill more believers. Therefore while interpreting this book, our biggest and highest focus should be on the victorious Lamb and not the enemy bound to be defeated. If you spend so much time and written pages identifying the ten horns, ten kings, the meaning of one hour and who the beast is, yet only use a few words and minutes on the Lamb and His victory, you have missed the point!

The passage was written to focus us on the Lamb’s Victory and not on enemy identity and power. To dwell so much on identifying the enemy and his power, instead of Christ and His sure Victory, is to support the enemy indirectly by fear-mongering! Our most energies and time should be spend emphasizing that regardless of who the enemy is, the Lamb and His followers will over come!

The ten horns interpreted as kings represent the political administration of this world, the governments. The beast is a religious organization that will purport to lead out in solving world problems through a new world order, but it’s purposes is to work on Satan’s behalf to oppose Christ and His church. All world governments (who will rule briefly at that time – figuratively indicated as one hour) represented by the ten kings will support this new initiative by the beast, and by doing that, give credence and legitimacy to this religious organization. Then this coalition of religion and government will make war against Jesus Christ, by corrupting His teachings in the Bible, corrupting the church with secular tendencies and persecuting true believers. But regardless of their methods and means of fighting Christ, which should not be our focus, Christ the Lamb will emerge victorious!

John 1:29 informs us that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world! All types of war have been fought against Jesus and His church. All types of war are being fought and are yet to be fought against Jesus and His church who are His people. War tactics and methods will change. It may be war fought from within by infiltration or from without by open and subtle attacks. Teachings may be challenged and attention diverted from Christ to non-issues. But regardless of what the enemy and his coalition does, one constant truth is sure in all these, Christ will overcome them!

Christ will overcome them for one reason, He is the Boss! Jesus Christ will overcome because He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the Boss and He has the final say! The enemy doesn’t just fight Christ and His church as a group, he also attacks individuals daily. The enemy attacks us daily, he changes tactics of attack so frequently we shouldn’t care to keep track, it may be disease, failure, family issues, losses, stress, disappointment, etc. But in all these hullabaloo of changing enemy tactics, one constant is clear, reliable and true, the Boss has the final word! We will emerge victorious with Jesus for He is the Boss!

Jesus is the Boss and has the final word on whether I fail or not, whether I die or not, whether I make profit or not, whether am happy or not, whether my current trouble will end soon or later. Final word in everything. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that the Boss has good plans for each of us and His church as a whole. Therefore at the end the Boss’s good plans for me today, for the church and the world will overcome all current enemy plans, tactics and methods. If we belong to the Lamb by faith, confession, repentance, baptism and practice, We are bound for victory regardless of our experiences today! The Lamb will overcome!

The passage ends by reminding us that, as the Lamb overcomes His enemies with certainty, He will not be alone, He will be with His faithful followers. Dear Lord, as you overcome today and in future, may I too overcome in you and with you in all that I do today and in future, may I be among your faithful followers, in Jesus name. Amen!
