Proverbs 12:16 ” A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.”
Temper is a response to a conclusion that you have been offended. Short tempered people are those who rush into conclusions before establishing all facts. The Bible calls them fools.
When you rush into a conclusion and react, when the true conclusion comes, you regret. You regret that your reaction was not commensurate to the offense. You regret that you made a wrong conclusion that has now hurt other people, who wouldn’t be hurt if you were patient enough to wait for the true conclusion. You regret and must swallow a humble pie of apologizing and looking like a fool that the Bible says you are. Short tempered people, according to the Bible, are fools.
Galatians 5:19 “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: …
(5:20) …, fits of rage, …
(5:21) …, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Short temper is sin. Those who thrive in fits of rage are sinners and will not see the life to come after this one. No heaven for the short tempered unless they repent. Short tempered persons will live lives of regret on earth, and miss eternal life. Indeed, short tempered people are fools as the Bible puts it.
Ephesians 4:26 ” “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,…” Anger is normal when offended. But anger must be controlled. (1) Don’t be short tempered by rushing to conclusions (2) Don’t be forever angry, which also means holding onto a grudge, refusing to forgive, sulking, and being in a permanent bad mood. The Bible advises against such anger. Those who are forever angry bring diseases to themselves and spoil their own days. Whichever way, anger uncontrolled is foolishness according to the Bible.
Some anger issues may need psychiatric intervention, for other anger issues Counseling psychology is enough, and for all anger issues prayer to God for reforms in addition to other interventions will help. In anger people have committed crimes that caused them death or imprisonment. In anger relationships are broken. In anger marriages are gone. In anger businesses are lost. In anger opportunities are lost. In anger friendships are ruined. Anger has caused more damage than good.
A prudent man, according to our text, will over look an insult. May God make us, help us and guide us to be prudent enough to overlook insults. May God heal our anger issues. May God in Mercy reverse the damage caused by our foolish anger… in Jesus name. Amen! (C)email@example.com *(do not delete any part of this post, including this.
