1 Corinthians 11:23 “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,
(11:24) and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.””
Jesus was betrayed by Judas. He was arrested, tortured/persecuted, crucified and killed by Jews and Gentiles. Of course He resurrected in Victory on the third day. Take note, His suffering to death began with betrayal. Judas on behalf of all betrayers in history betrayed Jesus and led to His death. But Jesus knew of the betrayal, and yet, on that night He was betrayed, He gave the greatest gift to all of us His betrayers… He gave His life to save us. On the night He was betrayed!
The Holy Communion of bread and wine is a symbol of body and blood of Jesus. When Jesus gave bread and wine, His body and blood, Judas was among those who received it from Him. Judas was carrying betrayal fee in his pockets, as Jesus gave Himself to the world, including Judas. On the night He was betrayed!
Betrayal didn’t change His mind nor distract Him. Jesus was committed to forgive and save. On the same night He was betrayed, that same night He offered forgiveness and salvation, which unfortunately did not benefit Judas and many others but benefited Peter and many others. On the night of His betrayal, He didn’t revenge and let anger ruin the bigger plan. On the night of His betrayal.
When you betray Jesus by sinning, your spiritual world and future hopes turn into night. Our daily challenges and suffering are because we live in the night of having betrayed Jesus. Yet on the night you betray Him, He offers forgiveness and salvation. On the night you betray Him, He offers light and a better happy future. Will you accept it tonight? On this night that you betrayed Him? On the night He was betrayed.
1 Peter 2:21 “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.” Jesus left us an example to follow in His steps, even on the night of He was betrayed.
When you are betrayed by family, friends, colleagues and people you trusted…it brings a night in your life. A social night. A financial night. A spiritual night. What do you do on the night you are betrayed? Jesus left us an example to follow strictly in His steps. That night He focused on bigger goals and didn’t allow betrayal to change His grand plan. Don’t allow betrayal to change your grand plans. That night of betrayal, Jesus offered forgiveness which many accepted and others didn’t. During this betrayal, you too can offer forgiveness that may be accepted or rejected. On the night of your betrayal, remember Jesus, on the night He was betrayed!
What was offered on the night of betrayal is not permanent. Take advantage while it lasts. God will one day withdraw that offer of forgiveness and salvation. Take advantage of the offer made on the night He was betrayed.
Today is the night of betrayal. You have betrayed Jesus by sinning accept His forgiveness and salvation. Today is the night of betrayal. You have been betrayed by those you trusted. Don’t ruin three quarter the progress because of anger and don’t carry grudges. On the night of your betrayal, forgive and go forward with your bigger goals.
May God help us to do the right thing that will bless our lives, when we find ourselves, on the night of betrayal, in Jesus name. Amen!
