It’s Not Permanent! 2

Lamentations 3:31 “For men are not cast off by the Lord forever.
(3:32) Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.
(3:33) For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men.”

Prophet Jeremiah wrote Lamentations to mourn the punishment of Israelites being taken to captivity because of their sins. The prophet saw destruction, death and suffering that God had promised if people remained unrepentant. As Jeremiah lamented, he also Shares hope… that this suffering, this misfortune, this disaster, however painful, it is not permanent!

Prophet Jeremiah reveals that our suffering is because we are cast off from God. Anytime we disobey God and choose a path of rebellion, we also choose disaster and suffering. No God, no happiness! How far are you from God today? How is your relationship with Him? Could it be the source of your suffering? The good news is, God will attempt to win you back. Suffering comes from rejecting God. But God ensures that It is not permanent! But if we persist in sin and rejecting God… we will permanently be destroyed in Hell. For now suffering is to win us back to God, it is not permanent!

Prophet Jeremiah gives another reason for our troubled lives. He mentions that God brings grief. God brings grief by allowing the evil one to try our faith as in Job’s case. The devil brought suffering, but God had to approve it, for it to happen. It was not permanent for Job and it won’t be permanent for you and me. God ensures, this test of our faith by the devil, is not permanent!

1 Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” God allows challenges that we can bear to come to our lives. But God ensures we are not overwhelmed. He creates a path of escape when we are overwhelmed. He ensures that bad times are not permanent! The test of our faith by the devil through suffering is not permanent!

The reasons why our painful situations are not permanent whether it’s self inflicted or devil initiated, is because (1) God is compassionate and full of unfailing love, God does not willingly allow suffering. It is our sinfulness that forces Him to allow suffering, so that in it we return to God. For these two reasons, no painful situation is permanent!

What is it today causes you pain and suffering? Health? Money? Failure? People? Relationship? Marriage? Faith? Whatever it is, in the name of the LORD, it is not permanent!

Be comforted, don’t give up, don’t despair, don’t lose faith and don’t quit it’s not permanent!

May we experience God’s love today. God’s unfailing compassionate love. May our testimony today and forever be, it’s not permanent! Is our prayer, in Jesus name. Amen!
