I Will Avenge And Repay!
Romans 12:19 “Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.”
To revenge has to do with responding to offense done to you and the purpose is to inflict pain and punish the other party, without concern for justice. To avenge on the other hand has to do with response to offense done to you or others, and the purpose is to ensure Justice is done to both parties. To repay has to do with compensation. God’s Word is don’t revenge. I will avenge and repay!
Do not revenge, because when you act in anger, you may do things that will change your status from offended to offender, victim to oppressor or aggressor. Do not revenge because in anger you may do what you will regret and lose the due compensation. Do not revenge because the mind, heart and vision of an offended person are shortsighted and until anger subsides will they see things clearly and properly. Revenge is responding in anger. The Bible advises, do not revenge. God promises, I will avenge and repay!
Leave room for God’s wrath. When we are offended, God is offended. When we are hurt, He is hurt. His wrath starts boiling up and He plans an avenge response. God is meticulous and precise. Therefore when offended, God says, step aside, let me deal with this. Leave room for God’s wrath. Hand over the file of offense to God. Download all the memory and transfer to God. He deals with avenging offenses.
Leave room for God’s wrath means don’t deal with it anymore. When you are offended, it’s no longer your issue, it is a God issue. Don’t deal with it. Even when the offended asks for forgiveness, Justice will be done. David asked for forgiveness, but the child of adultery died. We are forgiven our sins but the consequences of sin such as suffering and death remain. Justice will be done even when the other party repents.
God promises, I will avenge and repay. It is certain, it is guaranteed. Even if you die as Uriah was killed by David, God will still avenge. God will avenge and repay you in this life and in the life to come. No offender will go to the grave without Justice being done and if they do, God will deal with them eternally at the end of the world. Leave your anger with God, He has promised, I will avenge and repay!
God will avenge and repay what is done against us by politicians, government officials, the rich and powerful. God will avenge what is done against us by neighbors, relatives and friends. God will avenge the pain of a hurting spouse, orphan, and house workers. God will avenge the pain we experience under bosses at work.
God will avenge what unknown strangers have done against us, for they are known to Him. God will avenge mistreatment of teachers and by teachers. God will avenge what races and tribes have done against the other. God will resolve unresolved crimes. God will avenge and repay what nonhuman actors have done, what disease, and death has done against us. Whatever it is, the promise is the same, I will avenge and repay!
To revenge and harbour anger is draining and risky. Resist the temptation to post a revenge on social media. Resist the temptation to reply that text, email or letter. Resist the temptation to also do to them what they did to you. Resist the temptation to hire people to avenge for you. Resist the temptation to revenge in anyway… God has promised, I will avenge and repay!
Incase you are the offender and many times we are, be warned, it is God coming after us now, not those we offended. We may use our power, our position, our influence, our wealth, our money and leverage… but that can’t work against God who is plotting to avenge and repay those we offended. Quit your career of offending people, for God has promised, I will avenge and repay!
May God enable us to rise above offense that has hurt us so much. May God enable us to trust Him with avenge and compensation. May we experience the blessings of this choice to trust God in our anger, in Jesus name. Amen!
