He Grants Sleep To Those He Loves 8

He Grants Sleep To Those He Loves

Psalm 127:2 “In vain you rise up early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat – for He(God) grants sleep to those He loves.”

Psalm 127:2 “It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.

Sleep is important in rejuvenating the body. Sleep is important, for during sleep, the mind process information and therefore creates mental competence. Good sleep leads to a fresh new day the next day. Sleep contributes to recovery of the sick. After a good sleep, stress is relieved. Solutions to issues come after sleep, no wonder people grappling with an issue always suggest that let us sleep over it. The body is always in dire need of sleep and can shut down anywhere to get some sleep. That is why people doze off in important meetings, while driving or operating machines and even when talking face to face or on phone. Sleep is important. God created the need for sleep and we will all always need it. The Bible tells us that, God grants sleep to those He loves.

Insomnia is lack of sleep when you should be sleeping. Insomnia may have so many causes. A highly stressed mind can fail to allow the body to sleep. Concern over something or someone can affect sleep. Insomnia could be caused by drugs that excite the mind, or late night activities that excite the mind. Insomnia could be a result of repeated bad lifestyle especially while in school, and now after school when you need sleep, the body is used to a plan of staying awake. Whatever the cause of Insomnia it is a bad experience. Insomnia can be traumatising. The Bible says of God that, He grants sleep to those He loves.

The Bible also calls death sleep. There are times when death as sleep is the best offer to the suffering with terminal illness at late stages. Sickness can accord much suffering that sleep of death becomes relief. Let me be clear that suicide in all aspects is sin. Euthanasia in all its varied versions is murder. Only God has a right to determine when one dies. God grants sleep to those He loves.

Daniel 12:1 “At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book.”

The coming spiritual crisis will be such as has never happened on earth. It will have a huge impact on individuals, but God in wisdom, lets some to sleep in death than face that crisis, while He strengthens others to meet and deal with the crisis. God’s deliverance from the crisis may include sleep in death. No wonder the Bible tells us that, He grants sleep to those He loves.

What about the death of the wicked? Is it God granting sleep to those He loves? The wicked have no peace at death. Death of the wicked is painful and traumatising to them. Death to the wicked is bad news and a dreaded moment because of their hopeless prospects for the future and a fear for what will happen to those they leave behind for they have no God to take care of their interests.

Luke 23:46 “Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.”

Acts 7:59-60 “And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.”

Death that God has allowed to happen to the believer is peaceful and welcome relief. Death of a believers hopeful. Death as sleep to the believer is a God granted favour. To the wicked it is the most dreaded moment. Therefore it remains true that even in death, God grants sleep to those He loves.

Our text today is clear that unless God blesses your efforts, they will all be in vain and in addition you will not have the blessing and benefits of good sleep. Without God, we have so many activities and less results. Without God we shall always be hustling but nothing to show. Our daily struggles add to our daily frustration and pain, unless God blesses our efforts. Our day must be blessed by God and at the end of it, we pray that He grants us the sleep we need. God grants sleep to those He loves.

May God save us from toiling in vain and when time comes, may He grant us sleep that He grants to those He loves, daily and ultimately, in Jesus name, Amen!(c)rkesis@gmail.com (do not delete any part of this post, including this.
