He Did Not Know That The LORD Had Left Him

He Did Not Know That The LORD Had Left Him

Judges 16:20 “Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had left him.”

Judges 13 tells us that Samson’s existence was a Divine plan with Divine conditions. Samson was empowered in all he did by God. Without God, Samson was nothing. The secret of his strength was to have God in His life. The unshaven hair, abstinence from unclean food and alcoholic drinks was a sign of his obedience and loyalty to God who gave him strength. The sign didn’t give strength, it’s the LORD who gave strength. The unshaven hair was a sign of loyalty to God who gave strength! When Delilah shaved Samson, the LORD left him. But he did not know that the LORD had left him.

We too find our daily strength, safety, protection and blessings in God and not our efforts or symbols of loyalty to God. We too have symbols of our loyalty to God. Some symbols of our loyalty to God are Sabbath keeping, returning tithe and giving offerings, and a recommended lifestyle befitting a Christian. Samson’s daily immense strength was from God not competent gym training of his muscles. Our daily strength is divine not human generated in human efforts of hardwork, academia and experience. Samson’s strength was not in the hair that symbolised loyalty to God, it was in God. Our strength is in God and not the symbols. Yet, when the symbol of loyalty is taken, the LORD leaves. This was Samson’s undoing, he did not know that the LORD had left him.

The secret to Samson’s strength was faithfulness to God not the symbolic hair. In faithfulness to God he would not shave his hair. The secret to our daily strength for success in all we do, is faithfulness to God and not the symbolic Sabbath keeping, tithe and offering and lifestyle. Yet in our faithfulness to God who is the source of our daily strength, we will keep the Sabbath, return tithe and give offerings and maintain a Christian lifestyle.

Samson assumed the importance of the symbols of his loyalty to God, He looked at abstinence from unclean food and drink and grown hair as small negligible things. He allowed Delilah to shave him, and immediately the LORD, the source of his strength, left him. We too may be down playing importance of symbols of loyalty to God, such as Sabbath, tithe and offering and a Christian lifestyle. We allow world human opinions and busyness to ‘shave us,’ to cause us to break the Sabbath, fail to give or give less tithe and offerings and to corrupt our Christian lifestyle. By doing that, the LORD the source of our daily success leaves us. Samson did not know that the LORD had left him.

After shaving, Samson remained physically fit, muscular and fierce looking, but the LORD had left him. After breaking the Sabbath, giving less or no tithe and offering, and living a life contrary to God’s will, we maintain our academic qualifications, our businesses stay put, we remain employed, we don’t break up in our relationships, we stay in marriage, we continue our studies, everything goes on as usual except that the LORD, the source of our daily strength and success is gone! Samson’s and our greatest failure begins the moment the LORD leaves our lives. He didn’t know that the LORD had left him.

He did not know that the LORD had left him. All he started experiencing was a failing life and everything in jeopardy. We too may not know when the LORD leaves us, we will only experience crisis after crisis and failure of life. We therefore must ensure faithfulness to God by upholding the symbols of our relationship with Him. We must pray daily that God doesn’t leave us alone. Moses told God that he will never ever proceed without God. He knew God was his success and strength. The LORD’S departure was Samson’s undoing. He did not know that the LORD had left him.

Samson was unfaithful to God and symbols of loyalty to God and the LORD left him. May we UNLIKE Samson be faithful to God and to all symbols of our loyalty to Him, and may it happen today that God will return to our lives and we will permanently be successful, in Jesus name. Amen!
