He Also Vindicates!
Psalms 23:5 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
In Psalm 23 the LORD is presented as a Shepherd. As a Shepherd, He feeds therefore we shall not want or be needy or hungry, He causes us to rest in nice places that is green pastures, He restores our souls or revives us spiritually and psyches us up, He guides in righteousness so that we live according to God’s will (law of God and entire Bible teaching), He protects in the valley of death, He comforts with His rod and staff, but above all else, He also vindicates by giving us the best treat as our enemies watch and witness. He also vindicates!
To vindicate is to prove or demonstrate that someone who was earlier accused of being wrong is not wrong as earlier suggested. To vindicate is to demonstrate in the clearest terms that a bad reputation wasn’t deserved. To vindicate raises up the victim(s) and puts the enemy in their lowly place of shame and embarrassment. To vindicate glorifies one and shamelessly silences another. To vindicate comes with finality and draws a conclusion to a short or long drawn tussle between two parties, particularly where the innocent was being blamed. He also vindicates!
Revelation 12:9-10 ” The great dragon was hurled down–that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, …
(12:10) …. the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.” Satan gathers and presents evidence all the time before God to prove that we should end up in Hell fires with him, to prove that we don’t deserve to receive eternal life. Satan is supernatural and his evidence against us is credible, our only hope is the Saviour’s intervention. The death of Jesus saves us and vindicates us from Satan’s credible accusation. The LORD is not just our Shepherd, He also vindicates!
While Satan is accusing us to ensure we don’t receive eternal life, his agents, demonic and human followers are striving with us to prove how bad we are and to fail us. Many times, most times they are right. But God in Mercy looks at our tattered reputation and down trodden spirits, depressed lives and stressed living, and He vindicates. Human and demonic forces in us and around us causes us to appear guilty as accused and incompetent and deserving the worst in life. Therefore we fail, we break-up, we back slide, we incur losses, we demonstrate incompetence and we end up hopeless. But God intervenes and miraculously and graciously (because we don’t deserve) vindicates us. The LORD is not just our Shepherd, He also vindicates!
It is because He vindicates that responsibility shifts from us to someone else. It is because He vindicates that we get credit for where we participated least. It is because He vindicates that our poor methods yield fruits of success. It is because He vindicates that we are forgiven when we shouldn’t. It is because He vindicates that we pass exams, keep jobs, get contracts renewed, get other jobs, get visas, make profit, get higher rating, etc. It is because He vindicates that the not so good looking or mannered get spouses and cute kids. It is because He vindicates that the highly critical get into situations that silences or slows down their criticism to give some peace and space to those they consistently accuse. The LORD is not just our Shepherd, He also vindicates!
God our daily and eternal Shepherd is in the business of vindicating His flock (take note, His flock, so you better be part of His flock by joining the church). May He vindicate us today in Jesus name. Amen! (C)email@example.com (do not delete any part of this post, including this.
