For Lasting Peace Let God Rule
Judges 8:23 “But Gideon told them, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The LORD will rule over you””
Judges 8:28 “Thus Midian was subdued before the Israelites and did not raise its head again. During Gideon’s lifetime, the land enjoyed peace forty years.”
Gideon was a coward and with low self esteem, Judges 6:15 “But Lord,” Gideon asked, “how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”
(6:16) The LORD answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together.”
Gideon succeeded to destroy a huge Midianite army of thousands of soldiers with only 300 men. The reason is because Gideon was with God. The reason is because Gideon let God make all decisions. Gideon let God to rule and he succeeded. When he was asked by Israelites that he becomes their ruler, Gideon refused. Gideon offered God as a better ruler than himself or his son. It came to pass that for 40 years of Gideon’s leadership, there was peace, because God ruled. For lasting peace let God rule!
To rule has to do with providing direction, making decisions and leading out. To let God rule, is to let God provide direction, God to make the decisions and God to lead out. To rule is to be the ultimate authority to be referred to and revered. Gideon and his sons refused to be the ultimate authority and to be revered, they let God be the ruler. For 40 years of Gideon’s leadership, the land enjoyed peace. For lasting peace let God rule!
At times, God seems distant and fails to act promptly, according to us. We get tempted to take the place of God. We get impatient and make decisions and give directions that only God should. If only we could be patient and prayerfully study scripture to establish God’s will on a matter at hand. If only we could be patient and let God move in His own time and style. Waiting for God is an act of faith that is rewarded. Gideon waited for God to move in His own time and style, as a result there was 40 years of peace. For lasting peace let God rule!
To rule comes with privileges. Legacy, respect and resources. Those privileges cause many to push God out and fight for leadership and lead without God. Gideon knew that without God you cannot enjoy the privileges of leadership. To enjoy privileges of leadership, let God rule. For lasting peace let God rule!
Gideon did make mistakes as a leader. He got gold from the people and made an ephod that people worshiped. Judges 8:27 “Gideon made the gold into an ephod, which he placed in Ophrah, his town. All Israel prostituted themselves by worshiping it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and his family.” But Gideon’s surrender to God to rule made a whole difference. God kept His promise even when Gideon was unfaithful.
What causes unfaithfulness in leadership is normally the gold, the money, the material things. The Bible states that, this is what became a snare to Gideon and his family. But in spite of that challenge, Gideon let God rule. For lasting peace let God rule!
Who rules your life? Who rules your family? Who rules your studies? Who rules your employment? Who rules your business? Who rules your marriage and relationships? Whoever rules will determine if you will have peace. If you or any other person rule – there will be no peace but chaos and heartache and failure. For lasting peace let God rule!
Dear God, be the ruler of my life and let there be lasting peace, joy and blessings, even today, in Jesus name. Amen!
