Don’t Be Afraid, Just Believe
Mark 5:35 “While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher any more?”
(5:36) Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.””
Jairus a Synagogue ruler came to Jesus to plead for the healing of his daughter who was very sick. While Jesus was on the way to Jairus’s house, he was delayed by a crowd and a woman with a 12 years sickness of bleeding. Then news came to Jairus that the worst had happened, his daughter was no more, she was dead. The bearers of the news advised him not to bother Jesus. Jesus advised Jairus to respond to the deteriorating situation by refusing to fear and just believing. Don’t be afraid, just believe.
The bearers of the news advised that, since the child had died, Jesus should be left alone. At times we do the same thing. We don’t relate with God, we only use God to achieve a specific end, then we abandon Him. Since the exams are over, leave Jesus alone. Since you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, leave God alone. Since you have already incurred a loss, leave Jesus alone. Since the worst has already happened, why pray? When we leave God at such situations, it’s because we were using God and not relating with Him. God wants to be our God and we be His people at all times. God wants us to relate with Him and not to use Him. That is why He says, don’t be afraid, just believe!
Believing requires faith. Faith is knowing Him and having confidence in Him and His promises without evidence of fulfillment. Faith is a relationship. To believe is to maintain a relationship between yourself and the one you believe in. Jesus says, when the worst happens to you, your only hope, is to maintain the relationship with Him, to keep praying, to keep the faith. When the worst happens, don’t be afraid, just believe!
To be afraid is to focus on the negative and the impossible. When the worst happens, don’t be afraid, don’t focus on the impossibilities of your situation, don’t focus on how bad the situation is, how everyone is speaking about you, how they will laugh at you, how you will walk around ashamed, how you have been humbled. Don’t be afraid, don’t focus on the negative and the impossible, instead believe in God’s power over the impossible. When the worst happens, don’t be afraid, just believe!
When the worst happens, immediately people will advise you to abandon God and focus on the negative and the impossible resolution of your situation. Remember God’s command to you facing a deteriorated situation, don’t be afraid, just believe! Jairus kept the faith alive in that difficult moment and his dead daughter came back to life. If we keep the faith during our worst moments, God will bless us with unexpected answers and solutions. Don’t be afraid just believe!
Luke 18:8 “…when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”” As situations of our lives and the world keep changing from bad to worse, will God find us faithful under those circumstances? Whatever happens – don’t be afraid, just believe!
May God help me, so that in all situations, even those which deteriorate from worse to worst, that I will not be afraid, I will still believe in Him and His power to save. May I like Jairus rejoice at the end that I kept the faith. May I like Jairus find an answer to my situation that had been written off as a gone case or impossible. May I believe and not be afraid, in Jesus name. Amen! (C)firstname.lastname@example.org *(do not delete any part of this post, including this.
