Do Not Exploit Them!

Do Not Exploit Them!

Proverbs 22:22 “Do not exploit the poor because they are poor and do not crush the needy in court,
(22:23) for the LORD will take up their case and will plunder those who plunder them.”

The poor and needy are many all around us. The poor and needy are the majority. The poor and needy crowd our neighborhoods, churches, workplaces, etc. Do not exploit them!

The poor and needy are in our classes and hospitals. The poor and needy are working with us, as our juniors. The poor and needy are employed in our homes. Do not exploit them!

They may be poor and needy financially. They may be poor and needy mentally, academically. They may be poor and needy physically in their health. They may be poor and needy socially. They may be poor and needy because of death or disappearance of those they depended on, or because of marital separation and divorce. Whatever poverty and needy situation makes people desperate and prone to abuse. Do not exploit them!

The poor and needy can be gullible, naive and tempting to abuse and take advantage of. The poor and needy can be arrogant, noisy and full of themselves. The poor and needy can be irritating, uncivilized and lacking good manners. The poor and needy can be criminals and a nuisance. Do not exploit them!

To exploit is to use them unfairly. To exploit is to give long hours of labor and dismal pay. To exploit is to delay their pay. To exploit is to take advantage of their desperation so that they do what they wouldn’t do if they weren’t desperate. Sexual abuse, physical abuse and emotional abuse are parts of exploitation. Do not exploit them!

Do not use the court process to crush them. They may lack understanding of legal issues or even their rights. They may not have resources to pursue Justice. Do not use systems and processes they can’t access, can’t understand and can’t afford to exploit them. Do not exploit them!

The LORD has special interest in the poor and needy, He will defend them! The LORD detests injustice, He will defend them! The LORD promises to take up their case, and now you will be contending with God, and your loss and failure will be great and irredeemable. Do not exploit them!

The LORD will not just defend and protect the poor and the needy, He will also revenge on their behalf. The LORD will plunder those who plunder them. To plunder is to take valuables by force. To plunder is to impoverish.

The LORD will plunder the exploiter as punishment and justice. The LORD will plunder the exploiter as a warning to other exploiters. By plundering the exploiter, God brings them to the level of the poor and needy whom they exploited. Do not exploit them!

Matthew 25:34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
(25:35) For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
(25:36) I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'”

When we treat the poor and the needy well, we get God’s favor in this life and in the life to come we receive eternal life! Whatever we do to the poor and needy, we do it for God. May we through our service to the poor and needy find favor with God, and be blessed beyond measure. In Jesus name. Amen! (C)rkesis@gmail.com (do not delete any part of this post, including this.
