Be Careful about New Strange Teachings

Ephesians 4:14
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.

Hebrews 13:9
Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so.

The Bible declares that it is spiritual childishness to always adopt every new strange teaching. The Bible warns that such baseless teachings can only destabilize your life tossing you here and there. Strange teachings carry away those who subscribe to them and they lose control.

Strange new teachings are those that are not biblical. They are based on reasoning and arguments but not on direct biblical basis. Strange new teachings are high sounding but the explanation of how they are biblical is long and winding and confusing. Strange new teachings have no simple brief explanations, they are secret and requires long passages to convince but which confuse in the process.

Strange new teachings are not openly shared, they are given secretly in controlled groups. Strange new teachings many times thrive on opposing existing religious establishment instead of promoting its biblical basis and finding its own followers.

Strange new teachings are commonly related to biblical teachings such end time prophecies, the sanctuary and health issues. While these are biblical, they have a twist that makes them strange and new. Other strange new teachings are those based on revelations purported to have been given to an individual, and those revelations are foreign to biblical content! Strange new teachings are also based on attacking and correcting a mother church, without whom (the attacked mother church) the proponents and their teaching would cease to exist!

The Bible warns against being lured by strange new teachings. If the teaching has no simple direct basis in the Bible be careful. If the teaching is based on one verse only be careful. If the teaching finds its only legitimacy in opposition of an existing denomination be careful. If the teaching is carefully shared among select few and you wouldn’t get a quick brief explanation openly, be careful.

If you must go in secret places for studies and prayers to get explanations that are not even simple be careful. If the teachings demand all your time and resources from daily activities to religious activities only be careful. If you must quit your job, surrender all your resources and withdraw from society be careful. If the proponents are people who have failed in their daily lives and professions and you even wonder how they make ends meet, be careful.

May God grant us wisdom to quickly notice and distinguish truth from error, and to avoid deceptive strange new teachings, in Jesus name, Amen!
