John 5:6 “When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” *(5:7)* “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. *While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me* .” *(5:8)* Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” *(5:9)* At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.”
Healing at this pool depended on being first into the pool whenever the angel stirred the water. The sick man had been overtaken for 38 years! He describes his problem to Jesus as being overtaken. Others seemed to have an edge and advantage over him and always overtook him. Is there hope for the overtaken?
You left school at the same time, performed the same way, but you have made the least progress among peers. You have been overtaken. You earn the same monies monthly, but you seem overtaken. You dream the same dreams but others implement as you dream on. Others date and court as you keep calculating how to start. Others are growing spiritually, understanding teachings, changing lifestyle, participating…but somehow you are stranded. Others with similar health challenges are getting well but nothing works for you… always overtaken!
Being overtaken overtime weakens us. Kills our morale. We loose interest. We surrender to our fate. We focus on blaming others. We live in misery and worst of all, we stop trying nor even seeking God’s help. Being overtaken hurts you deep within and you can’t pronounce it, lest others call you lazy and defeated. Being overtaken causes others to hate those who overtook them, call them “illuminati” “devil worshippers ” or even seek to bewitch them so that “We all fail.” Is there hope for the overtaken?
Jesus is the only hope for the overtaken! After you have done all you can and you are still overtaken, stay calm and trust God to come and lift you up! Stay calm in your low estate, for Jesus will visit you. Pray and ask Jesus to visit you. Accept your failure and inability to progress. Jesus will lift you up in due time. Jesus is not limited to the long route of success for He is God!
May Jesus lift up the hopelessly overtaken today. May God help those who though not overtaken, but live in fear of being overtaken. May God heal us from psychological and physical challenges caused by our perceiving that we are overtaken. May Jesus give peace of mind to the overtaken today. May there be hope today for the overtaken, in Jesus name. Amen!
